Capitol Hill Riots January 6th, 2021 (S02 - Special Episode)

Listen to the episode on Spotify  Watch the episode on YouTube

Listen to the episode on Google Podcasts   Listen to the episode on Apple iTunes

On a day that will mark US history as one of the darkest days, a group of Pres. Trump supporters rioted the Capitol Hill building on the day that the congress was set to certify the presidential election that Joe Biden won on Nov. 3rd, 2020 in a violent attempt to overturn his defeat. After breaching multiple police perimeters, they occupied, vandalized, and ransacked parts of the building for more than four hours. The insurrection, that was infuriated by Pres. Trump himself weeks before and in a rally right before it happened, led to the evacuation and lockdown of the Capitol building and disrupted a joint session of Congress assembled to count the electoral votes and formalize Joe Biden's election victory.

The result of that riot was a significant damage to the capitol building, looting of many properties including two laptops one of which belongs to the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi that contains high classified government data, the delay of one of the most important Democratic processes in the USA and most importantly the loss of 5 lives including one of the Capitol’s Police officers and one rioter who was a decorated US veteran. In that dark day we witnessed the US democracy being under siege and the fire and fury of what words can do beyond being just tweets and social posts.

There is no doubt that COVID-19 pandemic caused the worst economic crisis in the history of modern humanity. Hundreds of thousands of businesses closed permanently, millions are suffering and are on the edge of collapse, small business owners lost their life work, some even lost their lives, because of this. Yet, the pandemic also raised a lot of chances and opportunities for growth in the new circumstances of what is becoming a “new norm”.

Suffice to say that those defied technology and transform their businesses into the new technical atmosphere were left behind to close or suffer a lot while those who rode the new wave survived and even flourished. Yet, no good deed goes unpunished. As businesses, and governments, moved more toward technology the chances of being exposed to digital attacks rose up to the roof and created a new gigantic challenge in a world that is already tackling the biggest challenges in history.

In this episode we shed the light on all these topics and how we expect a world post COVID-19 will look like from a Digital Transformation point of view.

On the day of November 3rd, 2020, the whole world will tune in to their TVs, radio stations and of course the internet to see what might happen in the US Presidential elections. The most important election in the world and this year probably the most critical one in the modern history.

After the very unexpected and probably most shocking win of President Trump in 2016 the whole world has changed course and started to look a lot different. Nothing has been as the old usual anymore and in a very tough and eventful year like 2020 it’s even more interesting than ever. An election within an unprecedented political unrest, in the middle of a one-in-a-century fatal pandemic and the rise of extremism (especially white supremacy) and political tribalism, this election is definitely the most interesting and crucial to the USA and probably the whole world.

This special live episode of Quantumly Leaping Podcast will be held “LIVE” on Facebook at the election night and will discuss in an open dialogue and in interaction with liv audience the main topics on everyone’s mind regarding the US elections 2020.

We are the 21st Century and while recording this episode we were in the middle of a global pandemic that affected over 10 million people around the world and the numbers were still skyrocketing. In such dire conditions we have to take our health seriously more than ever. Now with COVID-19 it is more important to eat right, exercise and keep our bodies in the best shape we can because if we lost our health then we have nothing. No wealth and no one can replace that.

Being busy, motivated and sometimes driven professionals we both have our own health issues that we struggled with and, luckily, overcame with the least possible damage which is why we wanted to share this with you especially the young motivated and self-driven professionals. To be clear, none of us are in the medical field so be cautious listening to this episode and always remember to consult your family doctor about your health. Take these recommendations and do your own research from trusted well-known sources and remember to always listen to your body and act carefully on it.

Modern Education P2: College Education Challenges (S01 - E13)

Listen to the episode on Spotify   Watch the episode on YouTube

Listen to the episode on Google Podcasts   Listen to the episode on Apple iTunes

In our previous episode we talked about the challenges of modern education especially the online schooling. As COVID-19 quickly transformed all education to online college education didn’t do much well in this extreme challenge. Problems with college education hasn’t started with COVID-19 for sure but this pandemic uncovered a lot of issues in this field. Parents are having a close look for the first time to what their kids are learning and they’re definitely not happy.

For the past couple of years, we’re seeing a lot of frustration with college education by both parents and students. Stuck in a very old cycle of curricula, educational methods and lack of understanding of the new market’s career requirements, college education is becoming very expensive and mostly inefficient. College students are becoming so frustrated that they are committing suicide in hundreds out of frustration. They are paying much money for an education that does not prepare them for the modern work environment, they are drowned in debt and have no decent income to pay for it.

What happened to college education that it became that expensive and inefficient? How does the COVID-19 pandemic reveal the problems with college education? What will happen to most colleges post COVID-19 now that parents are very unhappy with their kids’ advancement? All these and more question are the topics of this episode.

Some believe to be totally ready and some to be believed it’s too soon for such an action. Provinces around Canada are gradually and carefully reopening, countries and even some states in USA are also doing so.

How is it going to look like once we reopen the economy? What shall we expect and what shall we do to guarantee a safe reopening for everyone? When are we expected to go back to normalcy? Social Platforms Responsibility Against the Spread of Misinformation (S01 - E10)

Listen to the episode on Spotify   Watch the episode on YouTube

Listen to the episode on Google Podcasts   Listen to the episode on Apple iTunes

According to the Pew research center 62% of adults in the United States get their news from social media platforms. And, while most major media outlets have presence on social media, much more news outlets that are not legit or even regulated are their most of which spread lies, misinformation and conspiracy theories. The numbers of people who believe and share this news from those sources are staggering and rising every day.

Currently social media platforms are protected under the US law as being a provider (platform) not as a publisher which means they can decide for themselves what content should stay on their own platforms. While the pressure is getting higher and higher for those platforms to moderate the content and many of them are trying hard to make that happen, we hear politicians threatening of suing them or even shutting them down when they moderate their content.

How content moderation affects the spread of misinformation? How these companies will balance content moderation and still profit from content? And how politics plays a huge part in that? All of these questions are in the core of this episode’s topics.

Episode Topics:

  1. 00:33 Intro and the buzz about our 10th episode for this season and upcoming topics.

  2. 05:15 A quick history of social platforms and how they grew up to become news sources.

  3. 15:59 The rise of extremes in politics, religious beliefs, nationalism… etc. and how being on social platforms helped them spread and expand.
    https://youtu.be/Me4mkbHkqto?t=15m59s
  4. 25:48 Using social platform to spread misinformation to affect politics on ground.
    https://youtu.be/Me4mkbHkqto?t=25m48s
  5. 37:25 The effort that, finally, most platforms are putting to moderate the content and fight the spread of misinformation while pressured from politicians are rising when their content or their supporters’ content is being moderated.

Although it was the 20th century that the internet came out, the easy access and availability in high speed wasn’t that much till recently. The 21st century came up with a better, faster and more reliable internet connection that is wireless and fairly cheap. Since then everything changed including the methods and means of personal development. Last week (April 18th-19th, 2020) a mass shooter went on a rampage for over 12 hours in the province of Nova Scotia here in Canada. Investigations are still on the way at the time we recorded this episode but there are strong signs of a mental problem for the shooter. Two years ago, in about the same period, a mentally ill man killed 10 people hitting them in a rental truck in Toronto, only two months after that another mentally ill armed young man killed two and injured 13 in a mass shooting in the Danforth area in Toronto. Endless stories of people taking their own lives because of mental problems and the issue got bigger during the COVID-19 crisis. In this episode we are trying to shed some light on the mental health issue and how the society (local or global) can combat it together. Sharing personal stories and life experiences we're not trying to, nor claiming, that we offer any solution but we're trying to keep the conversation going on as we believe it's not being talked about enough.
